CWSHL REPRESENTATIVE CATARACTS WIN NATIONAL ALLAN CUP TITLE!!
What an end to the Cataracts hockey season. The Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts pulled off the biggest hockey win in town of Grand Falls-Windsor's storied senior hockey history by winning the 2017 Allan Cup - Canada's highest national senior hockey championship.
With national television coverage on TSN Sports - and follow-up national notoriety for the Town and the team fulsomely given out by television icons Ron MacLean and Don Cherry on their Hockey Night in Canada telecast - there could hardly have been a more exciting day for the Cataracts organization than Saturday,April 15th,2017 when they won the Allan Cup.
The Cataracts had completed another successful 2016-2017 Season winning First Place in the CWSHL and adding to their accomplishments most of the League Awards - for scoring, goaltending, best defenceman and MVP League honours. The League Championship went the full seven games with a hard-fought overtime loss by the Cats to rival Clarenville Caribous.
The Bous earned the right to then represent the CWSH League in the Herder, but they lost a nail-biter, and controversial deciding final playoff game to the rival AESH League representative...
An HNL Referee's failure to make the right call when that official allowed a game-winning illegal goal at the end of the deciding Herder Final game resulted in the Bous losing the deciding game and the Herder Trophy. It was admitted by HNL (after the Herder Trophy had already been presented to the AESHL Representative team) that the championship had been won by an illegal goal. It was a most regrettable "*asterisk end" to the 2017 HNL Provincial Herder Championship!
